The Nursery
(Newborns through 3 years old -
Sunday School hour 9:15-10:15 am,
Worship 10:30-11:45 am)
At Evangelical Community Church, we believe the development of a child's faith begins at infancy, and we are committed to nurturing future generations of strong Christians. Our nursery is a place where we care and pray for babies. It is an environment in which children consistently hear simple Truth statements about God, develop the language of faith, and begin to build a firm Biblical foundation. We believe nursery ministry is the first step in leading a child to Christ.

During both the Sunday School and Worship hours, a monthly Truth statement and a Bible verse are emphasized. The statement and verse, along with suggested ways to pray for the little ones, are posted on the nursery walls. As we rock the babies and play with the children, these Truth statements and Bible verses are spoken to them; and we pray for each child during their stay in the nursery.

A special time during the Sunday School hour is scheduled for the children, two and under, to hear about real events from the Bible. During our worship service, time is set aside for the children (toddlers through 3 years old) to hear the Bible event of the month, sing songs, and work on their memory verse for that month. Parents receive a handout and magnet on the first Sunday of each month to let them know what the story and memory verse are so they may do reinforcement at home. By the fourth Sunday, the children can tell the stories themselves!

Sunday School Teachers
Sunday School (9:15-10:15 am)
(Toddlers ages 2-3,
Preschoolers ages 4-5,
Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, and Grades 5-6)
Our Children’s Ministry uses the Show Me Jesus curriculum from Great Commission Publications. This curriculum teaches the Bible to our children in its completeness, showing how God’s plan of salvation through Christ is reflected throughout all of Scripture. The children will be taught the “story” of the Bible as well as the “events” that make up the Bible.

Fighter Verses are a tool to equip our families for Bible memorization. They are for the

TYPICAL VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Evangelical Community Church - 2191 Struble Road - Cincinnati, Ohio
9am - Noon

June 22-26, 2009, Evangelical Community Church and the surrounding property were transformed into a unique learning experience for children ages 4 through rising 7th graders. As each year brings a new theme, the 2009 emphasis was Missions - Honduras.
Vacation Bible School started each day with worship in an opening assembly which included a short skit and the children experiencing singing songs of praise in Spanish. Mrs. Gehner (shown below), who
was born and raised in Honduras, taught the children some of the Honduran customs such as carrying vessels on their heads and how to make tortillas from scratch.

The children learned to make flour by putting softened corn kernels through a grinder. Patties were made and then fried. Yumm!
Out on the south campus other activities were happening. There was a safari adventure via photography in the Outdoor Adventure workshop. Jason, a professional photographer, showed the students how to take good nature pictures with their disposable cameras.
During the week children earned money from their parents by doing odd jobs around their homes. On the last day of Vacation Bible School, the money they earned was brought in and sent to a designated Honduran mission.
Another outdoor adventure was with plants. Jeff, a young man who had done a short-term Mission in South America, taught the children how to plant things in containers so that they looked good and were compatible with each other.
A workshop in the garage provided the children with an opportunity to learn how to use different types of tools for varied tasks. They even got to do some painting!
Snacks were a favorite part of everyone's day!
There were "fun" things and a "Fun Day!"
The preschool class joined in with a learning project of their own. Water Fun Day
The Director of Children's Ministry at Evangelical Community Church is on sabbatical with her family this year, so Vacation Bible School is also taking a sabbatical. Check back in a few months for plans for Vacation Bible School 2011!
