Michael Lyons

lyons_michael_pageOur Minister of Discipleship is Michael Lyons. He serves alongside others to grow a culture of discipleship for ECC members to love one another and live a gospel-centered life together in community.

Michael supervises the men's and women's discipleship ministries and ECC staff, by directing the focus and enriching the leaders of Sunday School, Community Groups, Bible studies, Family Ministry, and Biblical Counseling.

Years on Staff

Michael earned a Bachelor's in English from Cedarville University, a Master of Divinity from Southern Theological Seminary, and a Master of Philosophy and PhD in Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Languages & Literature from Hebrew Union College.

Favorite Part of Working at ECC

"Learning from the godly men and women at our church as they image God in their life experiences. Our church is filled with people who teach me about God each day, as they serve and love one another."

The Lyons Family

Erin and Michael have four "crazy, fun-loving, precious kids who wrestle with daddy nightly and sing the greatest hymns at the top of their lungs," according to Michael. The Lyons have hiked trails from parks around Cincinnati to the Smoky Mountains, but none will compare to Michael's favorite hike ever: The Highlands trail in Glacier National Park.

Favorite Books and Authors

"Without contest, my single favorite author is C.S. Lewis." Of the theologian's long list of published works, Michael's favorites are The Great Divorce and The Planet Trilogy, along with essays like "The Weight of Glory." Of more Classical authors, he prefers Dumas, Dostoevsky, Dickens, Austen, Poe, Eliot and others. He also enjoys studying and writing about ancient Near Eastern languages and literature, archaeology and biblical scholarship on the Old Testament, and teaching adjunct at local universities.
