Scripture: Mark 4:35–4:41

Authority to Still the Storms
Mark 4:35-41
March 9, 2014

Introduction

I. The crisis and a cry of lamentation. Mark 4:37-38

II. The unveiling of divine power and authority. Mark 4:39; Psalm 107:25-29

III. Faith is the antidote to fear. Mark 4:40

IV. Now the disciples are really afraid. Mark 4:41; Revelations 1:17-18

Questions for Reflection:
• What does this passage teach us about Jesus?
• Why doesn’t God exempt His people from the “storms” of life in a fallen world?
• What comfort does this narrative provide Christians in the midst of crisis?
• When Jesus is proclaimed today, do individuals respond the way the disciples
responded to Christ’s miracle (with fear)? Does this lack of fear suggest a blind spot
in contemporary Evangelicalism?
