May 4, 2014 Preacher: Rich Lanning Series: The Gospel of Mark

Scripture: Mark 6:30–6:44

The Shepherd Feeds the Flock
Mark 6:30-44
May 4, 2014

Introduction

I. The rhythm of ministry. Mark 6:30-32

II. Jesus has compassion for the people. Mark 6:33-34

III. A boy donates what he has. Mark 6:38; John 6:9

IV. Jesus provides food that satisfies. Mark 6:41-42

Questions for reflection:
• What kind of rhythm should we as believers seek to cultivate in our lives?
• In what ways does Jesus show compassion for these people? In what ways am I, or might I,
show the compassion of Christ to others?
• How is the donation of five loaves and two fish an encouragement to us in ministry?
• What connections does this story have with the Old Testament and especially Moses?
• If Jesus is the good Shepherd who is uniquely able to satisfy our deepest needs, why are we so tempted to look to other sources for our satisfaction?
