Introduction

I. We are God’s temple. 1 Corinthians 3:16–17; Acts 2:42

II. God’s presence expands in us as we are set apart to Him. Romans 11:36–12:2

     A. Secure in God’s mercy. Romans 12:1

     B. We are called to live for His glory. Romans 11:36–12:1; 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

     C. Filled with God’s Word. Romans 12:2; Matthew 4:4

     D. Committed to prayer. John 15:7; Revelation 8:3–4

III. We are called to reflect and expand God’s presence to the world.

     A. Through suffering. Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 4:8–12

     B. In our marriages and families. Ephesians 5:24–25, 6:1,3

     C. In our work lives. Ephesians 6:5

     D. In the local church. 1 Corinthians 3:5–17; Romans 15:5–7, 2 Timothy 2:2

     E. In our communities. Romans 15:16

     F. To the world. Habakkuk 2:14, Philippians 4:15–18

Questions for reflection:

  • The Shorter Catechism says, “The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.” How is ‘glorifying God’ connected with ‘enjoying Him’?
  • How can we cultivate the presence of God in our lives? What gets in the way?
  • How do we reflect God’s presence to others?
