November 1, 2015 Preacher: Rich Lanning Series: The Gospel of Mark

Scripture: Mark 15:1–15:15

On Trial
Mark 15:1–15
November 1, 2015

Introduction:

I. Pilate: a ruler in bondage. Mark 15:1–5, 15

II. Barabbas: a condemned man set free. Mark 15:6–11

III. The Jews: in the grip of their father the devil. Mark 15:12–14; John 8:44

IV. Jesus: submitted to His Father, the suffering Servant. Mark 15:15; Isaiah 53:7; Hebrews 12:2

Questions for Reflection:

  • How is Pilate at the mercy of the world, the flesh, and the devil? What lessons should we take from this?
  • How is Barabbas and his release a powerful illustration for us?
  • What is the “gospel logic” that the spiritually lost fail to understand or appreciate?
  • How might God be calling you to “deny yourself and take up your cross daily?”
