Scripture: Romans 3:19–3:26

Who Am I? Righteous in Christ
Romans 3:19–26
March 6, 2016

Introduction:

I. What’s the problem? Sin, death, and a holy God. Romans 1:18, 3:19–20, 23; Exodus 23:7

II. God’s solution: “justified...in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:22–26; 2 Corinthians 5:21

III. Received as a free gift through faith. Romans 3:24–25; Ephesians 2:8–9

IV. Practical implications of our righteousness:

     A. We are forgiven. Romans 8:1

     B. We are at peace with God. Romans 5:1

     C. No longer any need of further sacrifices. Hebrews 10:11–14

Questions for reflection:

  • Are you confident that God has declared you “not guilty” forever in His sight? Do you know when that happened in your own life?
  • Have you ever wondered if God is still continuing to punish you from time to time for sins you have done in the past, even long ago? How does the teaching of justification help you deal with those feelings?
  • If we really believed we were righteous in Christ, how might this change us?
