March 13, 2016 Preacher: Rich Lanning Series: Identity in Christ

Scripture: Romans 8:12–8:17

Who Am I? A Dearly Loved Child
Romans 8:12–17
March 13, 2016

I. By the Spirit, we have become adopted children of God. Romans 8:14–15; John 1:12

II. The children of God are obedient children. Romans 12–13, 15a

III. We can have assurance of our adoption. Romans 8:16

IV. Our adoption means we are heirs of God. Romans 8:17, 23, 4:13

Questions for reflection:

  • What might eternity be like if we were only forgiven of our sins without being adopted into God’s family?
  • What can a person who has had a cruel and unloving earthly father do to gain a better appreciation of who God is and what kind of Father he is?
  • Do you sense the Holy Spirit within you bearing witness with your spirit that you are a child of God? Can you describe what that sense is like?
  • What is one takeaway for you from this sermon?
