The Rejection of the King
Luke 19:41–44
March 20, 2016

I. Jesus weeps. Luke 19:41; Ezekiel 33:11

II. The willful ignorance of Jerusalem. Luke 19:42, 44, 14:31–32
     A. That you accept the terms of peace.

     B. That you would know the time of visitation. Luke 1:68, 7:16

     C. They knew the facts. They reject the King. John 12:37–38; Isaiah 53:1–2

III. Dire judgment is pronounced.
     A. The message is now hidden. Romans 1:18–19, 24–25

     B. Future judgment to come on Jerusalem. Luke 19:43–44

Questions for reflection:

  • What kind of King did the Jews expect and want? What kind of king might people be looking for today? What might be some of the reasons that the Jews rejected Jesus as their King?
  • What does the divine judgment that came upon Jerusalem in 70AD teach us about God?
  • What does it teach us about sin?
  • How have you grown in understanding and following Jesus as your King?
