Scripture: Colossians 3:12–3:17

Put on the New Humanity
Colossians 3:12–17
July 24, 2016

Introduction:

I. We have a new identity. Colossians 3:12a

II. Our new identity issues in new behavior. Colossians 3:12b–14

III. Three priorities for the believer:

     A. Let God’s peace rule your heart. Colossians 3:15

     B. Let the Word dwell richly. Colossians 3:16

     C. Do everything in the name of the Lord. Colossians 3:17

Questions for reflection:

  • If you are one of “God’s chosen ones,” you belong to the most select, privileged group of people in the world. How is it possible to really believe that without a sense of arrogant superiority towards others?
  • Consider some examples of how your experience with other Christian believers within a church has fallen short of the godly character described in Colossians 3:12–13? How might the peace that Jesus won change such things–if it had a greater influence in your life and the life of your fellow believers?
  • Why is thankfulness so important? How might the thankfulness of a fellowship of Christian people be a good indication of spiritual health?
