God’s Will for Children
Colossians 3:20, Ephesians 6:1–3

Introduction:

I. Duties: obey and honor your parents. Colossians 3:20; Ephesians 6:1–2

II. Disobedience to parents is a serious matter. Romans 1:30; Leviticus 20:9;
Deuteronomy 21:18–19, 21

III. What reasons are there to follow these commands?

     A. It is right! Ephesians 6:1

     B. It brings joy to your parents. Proverbs 10:1

     C. It pleases God. Colossians 3:20

     D. That you may receive life-long blessings. Ephesians 6:3

IV. Remember Jesus was the only perfect child. Hebrews 4:15–16

Questions for reflection:

  • Why should children honor and obey their parents? What are some of the benefits?
  • What role does the Holy Spirit have in helping a son or daughter obey their parents?
  • How can parents model the kind of behavior they desire in their children?
