I. Do not provoke your children.

     A. What does it mean to 'provoke'? Colossians 3:21, Ephesians 6:4

     B. The problem of undue severity. Ps. 38:1

     C. The problem of permissiveness. Prov. 29:15

     D. The problem of double-standards. Phil. 4:9

 

II. Raise your children with tenderness. Eph. 6:4b

 

III. Raise them in the "paideia" and instruction of the Lord. Eph. 6:4b

     A. Educate:

     B. Discipline:   Prov. 22:15

Questions for reflection:

  • (To the adults) What were the strengths and weaknesses of your own parents in raising you? What did they do well? What could they have done better?
  • As a parent, do a little self-amalysis, where are you doing well and where might you be able to improve?
  • God is the ideal Father. What are the characteristics of God as a Father that make Him the perfect parent?
