September 4, 2016 Preacher: Rich Lanning Series: Colossians

Scripture: Colossians 4:2–4:4

Reaching Out Through Prayer
Colossians 4:2–4
September 4, 2016

I. Three marks of biblical prayer. Colossians 4:2

     A. Perseverance.

     B. Alertness

     C. Thanksgiving

II. Praying for the mission. Colossians 4:3–4

     A. To declare the good news of Christ.

     B. Praying for opportunities and clarity.

     C. One model of mission prayer: Lighthouses of Prayer
(Five people, five minutes, five days a week)
     Body – health, protection, strength
     Labor – work, income, security
     Emotional – joy, peace, hope
Social – getting along at home and work
     Spiritual – salvation, faith, grace

Questions for reflection:

  • What gets in the way of prayer?
  • What might help us to cultivate a prayer life marked by perseverance, alertness,
  • and thanksgiving?
  • What did Paul understand his mission to be?
  • How can we better support the mission given to us through prayer?
