B. Our need for words shows us that we are relational beings. Ephes. 4:29
II. The rebellious tongue is in league with the Devil. James 3:6, 8b.
III. The tongue is impossible to tame completely. James 3:7-8.
IV. Even among believers, the tongue is hypocritical and inconsistent. James 3:9-12.
V. What can we do?
A. Repent where necessary and remind yourself of the Gospel. Ro. 5:8.
B. Refuse to clothe evil thoughts with words. Ephesians 4:29.
C. Draw near to God and pray. James 4:8.
D. Cultivate the regular habit of praise and worship. James 3:9a.
Questions for reflection:
- What do you think your language and use of words say about you?
- In what specific areas of speech might you need to improve?
- How and to whom can we use our words to minister and bless?
