Faultfinding and Oaths

James 4:11-12, 5:12

October 14, 2018

I.   The problem of judging your neighbor. James 4:11-12.

II.  Jesus on Judging fromthe Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 7:1-3, 6.

III. Two reasons for guarding against a critical spirit. James 4:11b-12a,

       Romans 2:1.

IV.   The problem of swearing and unnecessary oaths. James 5:12a,

        Matthew 5:33-37.

V.    Let your "yes" be yes, and your "no" be no. James 5:12b.

Questions for reflection:

  • What does Jesus mean when He declares "Judge not, that you be not judged."( Matthew 7:1).
  • How is faultfinding often rooted in pride?
  • Why does God forbid the taking of informal oaths?
