That Scripture Might Be Fulfilled

Luke 24:44-49

April 21, 2019

I.   It was necessary for Christ to suffer, die and be raised on the third day.
      Luke 24:44, Romans 8:28.

II.  The Old Testament predicts and prepares us for the death and resurrection,
      Luke 24:45-46.

      A.  His suffering and death: Psalm 22:16-18, Isaiah 53:4-5, 7-9.

      B.  His resurrection: Psalm 16:10 (cf. Acts 2:25-32), Isaiah 53:10,12,
           Hosea 6:2, Matthew 12:39-40.

III. Therefore, repenet and your sins will be forgiven. Matthew 24:47, Isaiah 55:7.

IV.   His disciples are to serve as witnesses, Luke 24:47-48, Psalm 22:27-28.

Questions for reflection:

  • How is the resurrection an encouraging example of God working for the good of those who love God?
  • Where and what ways does the Old Testament speak of the suffering, death, and  resurrection of Jesus?
  • How is the witness of the Apostles and evidence of the historicity of the resurrection?
