Scripture: Romans 8:28–8:28

All Things for Good, Part 2
Romans 8:28
October 25, 2020
Pastor Rich Lanning

I. If God is sovereign over ‘all things’, then why should I try to exert influence on             changing anything? Romans 8:28; Psalm 115:3

   A. Example of Jonah

   B. Example of Judas. Luke 22:21-22.

II. Do ‘all things’ include the worst things? Amos 3:6; Genesis 50:20.

     A. Example of Job. Job 2:9-10, 38:1-11, 42:1-6

     B. Example of Jesus.

III. Thoughts on what this means.

      A. We should love the truth of God’s providence.

      B. Providence should encourage us to trust and persevere in affliction.

      C. It should be an encouragement to non-Christians to seriously consider the
         claims of Christ.

Questions for reflection:

       • What comfort and encouragement is there in God’s providence?
       • Why does the biblical teaching on God’s sovereignty not the same as the
          deterministic idea of fate?
       • How have you seen God’s providence at work in your life for good?
