Sunday School Kickoff!

Sunday School Kickoff!

We invite everyone to join us for our annual Sunday School Kickoff, this Sunday, August 25th at 9:15am.

Sunday School is a primary avenue for growing as disciplers at ECC, so if you have not attended in the past, we encourage you to try it out this year!

I am excited about some of the great Adult classes that we have coming this year. Here's what's in store for us:

September - October

Reading the Pentateuch, taught by Michael Lyons (Fellowship Hall)

It has been eight years since we last worked through the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy! Unless you have a picture perfect memory, this class will help refresh all of us at to the beginning of the story of God in the Bible. The first five books of the Old Testament are essential for establishing the major themes that unite the Bible together.

Six Steps to Reading the Bible, taught by Harvey Landholm (Modular)

If you are looking for a good place to start learning how to read the Bible, this is the class for you. This six week course will walk everyone through a good paradigm to use in reading your Bible. It will encourage you to engage with the scriptures and learn to hear God's voice through His word.

November - December

Following Jesus in the 21st Century

I am particularly excited about this new course! Each week a moderator (Steve Langdon or Michael Lyons) will facilitate a panel discussion with several members about tough issues Christians face today in the 21st century. We will grapple together with issues like technology, environment, poverty, end-of-life care, money, and power.

January - February

Depression & Anxiety in the Christian Life, taught by Steve Langdon

Yes, even Christians get depressed. This class will look at the various spiritual and physical dimensions of depression and anxiety, and offer resources and ways to think about healing.

March - April

Reading the Gospels, taught by Michael Lyons

This course is actually a combination of two series. First, we will finish the historical geography course from last winter (Behind the Scenes of Ancient Israel) by covering the Hellenistic and Roman periods (because of snow cancellations, we never finished!). Second, we will cover the biblical books of the Gospels. Particular attention will be given to how the major themes we've covered in the Old Testament Survey classes continue right into the Gospels and are fulfilled in the person of Jesus.

May - June

The Mystery of Marriage, taught by various teachers

We will end our Sunday School year with a series on Marriage. This class aims to be very practical by covering topics like conflict & peace making, maintaining a healthy marriage, sex in marriage, singleness and chastity, the childless couple or empty nest, and when calamity strikes marriage.
